Who is Greg Tuley?
Who is Greg Tuley? That sounds strange, even to me. First and foremost, let me stress that I am a musician, not a writer. I began playing drums at the age of 10, studying under the direction of Bruce Langford. I learned the skill of timing, good is not your best and practice, practice and more practice! Mr. Langford was one of the most respected instructors in Evansville, Indiana and I was privileged to have learned from the best. I continued private instruction throughout the years, studying under prominent instructors, Jim Johnson, Brian Callahan and Kenny Aronoff. I lived and breathed drums and still do! Throughout the years, I continued pursuing my passion. I received my Bachelors Degree in Music Education from the University of Evansville, toured with the Chicago Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps and performed with a variety of bands, theater productions and professional orchestras. Drumming has provided me with the extraordinary opportunity to meet and perform with many talented Broadway actors and musicians. Some of these productions have included: New Harmony Theatre's Presentation of 'Ain't MisBehaven', Gilbert & Sullivan's 'H.M.S. Pinafore' , Gibert & Sullivan's 'Pirates of Penzance' and 'The Full Monte' and local productions including Civic Theatre's 'Nunsense', Princeton Theatre's 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'Mary Poppins'. As a lifelong fan of Vic Firth Drum Sticks, I am proud to have been accepted as a member of the Vic Firth Education Team in 2010. Whether teaching drum set, percussion or playing a gig, I am definitely in my element. As the Percussion Director for Princeton Community High School, I am able to relive my Drum Corps days and view the world through the eyes of future drummers. I recognize their passion and regardless if they pursue drumming professionally or not, the memories of marching band will forever remain with them. Private teaching has its' own set of rewards. There is an incredible sense of awe that follows each Solo and Ensemble preparation, audition material practice or simply watching the improvement of skills over the years. I proudly incorporate the methods and proven techniques taught to me long ago, along with a few I've added. I can say without hesitation that I am so very proud of all of my students, past and present. On a personal note. I have been married to the love of my life for 32 years and we love to travel. We have two grown children. My son is NOC Engineer for a media streaming corporation in Virginia and my daughter is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Music Performance at the University of Kentucky. These days you won't find me in the clubs, but I do enjoy playing at Church and I continue to teach. I still love teaching and always will! I doubt that I will ever retire from it. |
