Academic Performance Musical instruction has been proven to help increase academic performance. Studies have shown that drum lessons can help increase aptitude in the area of math, such as counting, fractions and formulas, along with following directions, focus and logical thinking. Confidence/Social Drum lessons may provide that boost of confidence your child needs to break free from shyness, or feelings of “not fitting in”. IQ/Motor Skills Drum lessons can help increase IQ. Because playing the drums requires using both hands and feet at the same time, the brain has to think differently. Using both sides of the brain can help increase and/or improve IQ and motor skills. Health It’s no secret that kids today are not getting enough exercise. Video games and social media have contributed to childhood obesity and health is a very real concern. Playing drums builds muscles, burns calories and reduces stress.

Does your child gravitate toward music, keep time with the beat, tap on tables, or play air-drums? If so, your child might be ready to take the next step……..drum lessons. The following questions will help you determine whether or not your child may ready for drum lessons:
So you answered yes to all or most of the above and believe that you're child is definitely ready for drum lessons; now what? For lack of a better analogy, take a test drive. That's right, a test drive. Most drum instructors will offer a free preview lesson to determine lesson readiness and will provide honest feedback, so be prepared.
I could go on and on about the benefits of music; however, I have to admit that it is the passion, adrenaline rush and total euphoria of playing drums that drives my desire to continue to improve, continue to practice and continue to teach. As a drummer, you're thrown into a very competitive melting pot of multi-talented musicians; however, I guess you could call it a drummers code of sorts, but drummers always respect and support other drummers. I have had an incredible journey along the way. I have had the opportunity to meet so many talented musicians over the years and it would be impossible to name them all. Online, social media and blogging are the tools of today's world, so bear with me as I tackle this addition to my routine. I hope to share a few tips and a few laughs along the way and I hope you will follow my blog and social media pages. Until next time...........
